Laguna Beach, CA September 7, 2014:

CANDO, the Canyon Alliance of Neighborhoods Defense Organization, will be hosting a Forum for the candidates for Laguna Beach City Council. The focus will be on Laguna Canyon issues and solutions. We are delighted to announce the Forum will be filmed for later webcasting, thanks to CANDO Board member Michael Fowlkes, executive producer, writer & director of Inside Sportfishing on Fox Sports. The CANDO Forum will be held at 6pm, October 9th, at the Boys and Girls Club Main Branch, 1085 Laguna Canyon Rd, Laguna Beach.

CANDO Forms Zoning Study Committee and Neighborhood Photos Committee

CANDO Forms Zoning Study Committee and Neighborhood Photos Committee

During the July 31st CANDO General Meeting, CANDO formed two committees.

A Zoning Study Committee was formed to prepare CANDO’s position on Zoning in the Canyon. It will be chaired by CANDO Board member Dr. John Hamil and include the following committee volunteers: Lorene Auger (Canyon Acres), Louis Longi (Sun Valley), Roberta Kansteiner (Canyon Acres), Sharon Risley (Sarah Thurston Park).

A second committee was formed to collect photographs for neighborhood character sketches for the website and for other CANDO promotional purposes. The CANDO Neighborhood Photos Committee will be chaired by CANDO Board member Dan Marriner and include volunteers Louis Longi (Sun Valley), Sheila Maquilan (Canyon Acres), and Sharon Risley (Sarah Thurston Park).

CANDO Board Elects Officers

The founding board of CANDO elected officers on July 24, 2014.

The following are the elected officers by vote of the CANDO Board:

•    President & Spokesperson:  Penelope Milne
•    Vice President:                        Steve Tollefsrud
•    Secretary:                                 Sheila Maquilan
•    Treasurer:                                Marcia Klass

This follows the official seating of the founding board of CANDO on July 3, 2014.

All of the Board members are leaders from within their respective neighborhoods. Note that the CANDO Board is composed of two representatives from the following:

•    Castle Rock:                                Michael Fowlkes & Casey Parlette
•    CANA (Cyn Acres & Arroyo):     Steve Tollefsrud & Dan Marriner
•    LCPOA (Sun Valley):                    John Albritton & John Hamil
•    Sarah Thurston Park:                Sharon Risley & Helen Shirley
•    Thurston Homeowners Assn:  Mike Hallinan & John Turk

The primary channel for members addressing CANDO concerns should initially be the neighborhood representatives listed at the website.
CANDO encourages and welcomes all input. We also wish to honor and respect our affiliate’s domains and policies.

CANDO will be holding a general meeting on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting until around 8pm.

For Immediate Release

The founding board of CANDO was officially seated on July 3, 2014.

Further announcements will be posted at the website www.lbcando.org. Please check back weekly for updates.

The following are the members that agreed to be listed as our initial Board. Note that the CANDO Board is composed of two representatives from the following:

LCPOA: John Albritton & John Hamil
CANA: Steve Tollefsrud & Dan Marriner
Thurston: Mike Hallinan (2nd seat to be announced pending confirmation)
Castle Rock: Michael Fowlkes (2nd seat pending confirmation)

We are committed to, and pledge to be a strong advocacy voice for the Canyon and will implement our Mission Statement to the best of our abilities.

All of the Board members are leaders from within their respective neighborhoods.

At our first official Board meeting, we will be seating the 2nd neighborhood representatives as noted above, elect Board officers and appoint non-voting technical advisors.

The primary channel for communications addressing CANDO concerns by members should initially be passed through the neighborhood representatives listed at the website.

CANDO encourages and welcomes all input. We also wish to honor and respect our affiliates domains and policies.
